About

In the deluge of neo-liberalism the space for independent informed thinking, debate and discussion is rapidly shrinking. When on the one hand traditional media outlets are being rendered into mere mouthpieces of big-business and their interests, the partisan outlets are becoming increasingly polarised and exclusive. The web with it’s blogs, sites and social networking is no exception. All this while vast populations of the world’s inhabitants are under extreme duress with no clear way out. In this situation there is an urgent need for making space for radical (one which associates with the the root of any phenomenon and not merely its external manifestations) scientific (one based on informed, unambiguous and honest) intellectual rummaging. And also necessarily Left since the entire exercise must be aimed at alleviating the ills of a consumerist/capitalist world.

The Vanguard was started with this idea of giving space to the radical scientific Left voice in the political spectrum.

Despite its political content, The Vanguard asserts its non-partisanship. On the contrary at a time when no group or individual can claim to have the answers, The Vanguard aspires to be a confluence of varied political, social and scientific thoughts and ideas cutting across nationalities, partisan affiliations and ideological positions. It is a firm belief of The Vanguard that it is in the confluence of many ideas, even if conflicting, that we may find the correct path.

Reading the Blog

The other sections, Politics & Economics History & Philosophy are as for topics as their names suggest and it will The Vanguard’s endeavour to give space to original thinking pieces that handle the subjects with due gravity. The Arts is for giving space to art and literature in all forms and to discussions on specific subjects in them. In The Sciences we take up topics form the world of the natural sciences presented in forms that are suitable for the general reader.
